Elanco honoured and proud to support COVID-testing in UK
Equipment from Speke site lent for government testing
Speke, U.K. (29 April 2020) Elanco Animal Health Incorporated (NYSE: ELAN) announced today its support to the British government in mass scale COVID-19 testing.
Elanco’s Speke manufacturing site received a request directly from the British government to contribute to the mass scale testing of the COVID-19 virus. The request was related to borrowing our Tecan 100 Evo Liquid handling robot, which is used for performing enzymes assays at our Speke site.
Only recently, Elanco invested in this piece of equipment. The Tecan robot is capable of testing large volumes of samples with very little human intervention, and can carry out repeated dilutions with speed and accuracy.
As there is only a limited number of these robots available, the government asked us to lend the Tecan to a central laboratory hub in Milton Keynes, where it would be used alongside other specialised equipment to test COVID-19 on a mass scale. The robot was collected by specialist handlers to be transported safely to the laboratory hub.
