A rapidly growing engineering and management services consultancy has strengthened its team with a double staff hire after winning more work across the UK.
Stockton-on-Tees-based Encora Energy has appointed experienced technical specialist, Howard Bray, while Adam Ranson has joined the company as a site technician.
Howard brings to the role more than 35 years of engineering experience, having worked for more than two decades in various technical roles at global aerospace and defence giant Rolls-Royce. He also spent a decade at international steelmaker Corus, where he was heavily involved with commissioning of a £100 million project to replace the Lackenby Beam Mill with a specialised hot steel rolling mill.
In his new role, Howard is responsible for managing Encora’s ChipCob control system, which enables energy suppliers and users to actively control assets within commercial and industrial scenarios to maximise energy value and costs. He will also help to further the development of younger members of Encora’s team.
Meanwhile, Adam Ranson joins the company after spending five years as a senior technician at a Gateshead-based telecommunications equipment maker. He brings to his new role 20 years’ experience in the field of electrical engineering and will help Encora maintain and manage power networks across the country.
The double appointment bolsters Encora’s team and will help the company to service a pipeline of new work, including contracts on gas peaking plant projects. Often known as “peakers”, they are power plants that generally run only during periods of high demand for electricity to balance the grid.
Andrew Normand, Business Development Director at Encora Energy, said: “We’re thrilled to have hired two vastly experienced individuals who can help drive our future growth. Howard and Adam bring the right skillsets that we need as a business to service our current and future workload.”
Encora Energy provides project development, engineering, consultancy and operations management services to customers, helping them deal with the practicalities of developing, installing, operating and maintaining new energy systems such as renewable and battery storage systems, combined heat and power (CHP) plants, fuel cells, gas engines and gas turbines.
On behalf of its clients, Encora Energy manages the operations and maintenance of eight “peaker” sites with more than 50MW of capacity. The company’s work on these projects has been wide-ranging, from identifying suitable sites and overseeing the construction phase to helping plant owners extract optimum value from the plants once operational.
