North East-based companies, Travel Bureau and Athena Risk, have joined forces to host a series of free workshops which will demonstrate how implementing a robust travel safety, health and security strategy will assist companies safeguarding their employees when travelling on business and preparing them for in different environments and cultures.

Held at 9am on 25 May at Newcastle’s Barclays House, the Travel Safe session will offer businesses an insight into the potential issues associated with travelling overseas, especially in emerging and developing markets, how to minimise the risk to personnel, and what employers should consider to fulfil their duty of care and the business benefits associated to policy implementation.

Travel Safe is an opportunity for NE businesses to prepare themselves for a predicted 50% growth in mobile employees by 2020 and is in response to increased enquiries from businesses looking to ensure the safety and wellbeing of their mobile workforce and protect their business reputation.

The workshop coincides with the launch of a joint venture between corporate travel management specialists, Travel Bureau and risk management consultancy, Athena Risk. The two businesses have joined forces to launch the Travel Safe service, which will provide organisations with a combination of travel management services, risk mitigation expertise and state of the art technology designed to ensure that travellers stay safe and informed throughout their journey.

Anne Bromley, Joint Managing Director of Travel Bureau, said: “It’s an exciting time for British businesses as Brexit and a changing global business landscape presents new opportunities across the world. The North East in particular is home to a large number of businesses which have the capability and desire to expand into international markets.

“These workshops are an opportunity for businesses currently working overseas to ensure they are meeting both their moral and legal obligations to employees, and also for organisations curious about working in new markets to develop a greater understanding of the process of international corporate travel.

“Travel Bureau’s new venture with Athena Risk hails a positive step in our development, working with partner organisations to offer businesses a comprehensive service that will help the economy of the region continue to grow.”

David Tait, Director at Athena Risk, said: “We’re especially pleased to be working with Travel Bureau on the Travel Safe initiative and events as we progress our mission to support the growth of North East businesses into emerging markets, offering safe solutions to challenges.

“Travel Safe isn’t just about ensuring companies have the right processes in place. It is a holistic offering which helps travellers to stay safe, before and during any trip. This includes access to a customised app, which will provide live on-the-ground intelligence updates relating to security. We will also educate travellers about cultures and local businesses practices before they set off so they arrive prepared and ready to get to work.

“As more and more North East companies conduct business overseas in developing and emerging markets, a mobile workforce is of increasing importance. Mitigating risk is an important part of good business planning and this is an area which all parties involved in Travel Safe have considerable experience in.”

The Travel Safe event at Barclays House, Quayside, Newcastle, NE1 3DX on Thursday 25 May 2017 at 09:00 – 11:00 AM.
