The Elf Run takes place at intu Metrocentre and intu Eldon Square on Sunday, December 6.

Last year, hundreds of youngsters dressed up in Christmas-themed costumes and the 1km event, sponsored by intu and Sir Robert McAlpine, is back by popular demand for a second year.

This year runners will raise money for local charity The Percy Hedley Foundation, which works to improve the lives of disabled children and adults in the North East.

Chief organiser Phil Gray, who took part in the famous Bike for Bobby event with former Newcastle United favourite Robbie Elliott, hopes the event will attract even more youngsters than last year.
“The first Elf Run was held last year and everyone there was amazed by the site of so many happy elves,” Gray said.

“What really touched us afterwards was the generosity of those who took part. The gifts and fundraising achieved was amazing. It was very emotional seeing the positive difference the event was making at such a special time.

“Let’s get more elves running through the centres this year and help make an even bigger difference.”

Fundraiser Danny Mitchell, from The Percy Hedley Foundation, added: “We are thrilled to have the Elf Run as one of our fundraising events as it brings the magic of Christmas to children of all ages while helping to raise vital funds for our work with disabled children and adults.

“We hope everyone downloads a sponsor form and raises whatever they can as every penny really will make a difference.”
