Fully funded training for North East businesses and individuals is being offered for the first time by innovation and business support company RTC North through the Skills Support for the Workforce programme.

It means that local people can benefit from high quality, fully funded programmes to start or grow their business, or refresh key skills.

Training is available as open programmes at a number of locations across the north east, or within the workplace at a time which meets the needs of the business if there are a group of learners.

The range of courses includes team leading, leadership and management, creativity and innovation, lean and operational improvement techniques, business strategy and planning, coaching and mentoring, sales and marketing, and bid writing.

RTC has been appointed as the delivery partner for Gateshead College, which won the Skills Support for the Workforce (SSW) programme contract. SSW is fully funded by the European Union’s European Social Fund and the Skills Funding Agency.

In addition to funded training, RTC is developing its range of commercial training and has put together a number of programmes which can be tailored to meet the needs of businesses, regionally and nationally. It has recruited Mica MacInnes to head up the training programmes at RTC.

Mica said: “It’s fantastic news to be working with Gateshead College on the SSW fully funded training contract, and even better news for local business people who can sign up for first-class business training at no financial cost.

“I’d urge anyone interested in taking part to get in touch quickly as places are limited, and the courses will be really valuable in improving prospects and profits. I’m excited to have been given this opportunity by RTC, and see SSW programmes as a great springboard to develop the training offered.  We want to build upon RTC’s reputation for quality business support by also becoming the provider of choice for training in the region.”

The SSW programme covers businesses and individuals based in Durham, Newcastle and Tyne and Wear. The courses are aimed at people seeking to gain new skills, particularly intermediate or higher level skills and/or planning to start a new business within three to six months. The RTC team works with participants to make sure each person gets the most from the programme.

Andrew Buckley, chief executive of RTC North said: “Skills development is vital in creating an adaptable, up to date, motivated workforce, and key to the creation of a sustainable, confident economic future for the region.

“Skills development and innovation play to RTC’s proven strengths. We are delighted to be working with Gateshead College to deliver fully funded training.

“Now we have Mica on board, we will be working with many more companies to transform their potential through building skills and confidence. In doing so, we help to grow local businesses, retain talented people and boost high quality jobs in the north.”
