Get Involved in Pedal-Powered Parade and Enjoy the Ride

middlesbrough-moving-forwardTHE Tour de Yorkshire celebratory carnival in Middlesbrough town centre is inviting members of the public to get involved in a pedal-powered parade.

The big event will hit the streets of Middlesbrough on Sunday, May 1 at 1pm as part of the Enjoy the Ride festivities.

Stellar Projects are creating a spectacular parade which brings together community costume groups, professional performers and musicians along with a cavalcade of decorated bikes.

Ahead of the big day Stellar are hosting a free workshop at Hillstreet Shopping Centre on Saturday, April 23 from 10am-4pm, where members of the public can bring their own bikes along and work with an artist to transform it ready for the show.

Inspired by Captain Cook and the ships from his famous voyages; Endeavour, Discovery, Adventure & Resolution, the procession will incorporate the sights and sounds of the far flung places Cook visited, using their traditional colours, patterns and motifs to take the audience around the world and back again.

Costumes featuring iconic Maori patterns and Polynesian tattoos; Hawaiian tikis, botanical prints, exotic animals and shoals of colourful fish will all be on display.

On the day the costumes and structures will be brought to life with the familiar sounds of samba rhythms and brass melodies to get everyone moving and create a carnival atmosphere.

Sign up to take part in the bike parade and book your place at the workshops at www.enjoytheridebikeparade.eventbrite.co.uk (under 16s must be accompanied by an adult).

Stellar would also like to hear from local cycling and wheel powered sports groups who want to part, for more information contact lyndsey@stellar-projects.co.uk
