Screen Shot 2015-11-10 at 11.55.11Year 2 pupils from a Guisborough school were treated to a day at the town’s 4* hotel as part of their studies.

The six and seven year olds from St Paulinus Primary Catholic Academy have been learning about the history of the area and were fascinated by Gisborough Hall, previously a family home.

Manager of the 19th Century hall, Kim Yardley, recently welcomed the pupils to the hotel to learn more about its history and tour the grounds.

The children enjoyed a tour of Gisborough Hall and treats made by head chef, Jason Moore.

Rebecca Mallam, year 2 teacher at St Paulinus, said: “We’ve been learning about the history of the Guisborough so the children were really excited to see how the family home had been converted into a hotel. They were all fascinated by Gisborough Hall’s grandeur and old artefacts, such as the traditional bells that are on display. All of the children loved looking around the magnificent grounds and the rooms and wanted to stay the night! We were all made to feel so welcome and had a fun yet informative day.”

Kim Yardley, general manager at Gisborough Hall, said: “We’re really keen to get involved with our local community and it was a brilliant day with the children from St Paulinus. They were so enthusiastic and already knew such a lot about our history and that of our local area. It really was lovely to be able to share what we do with the school and treat them to a few snacks made by our head chef.”

Gisborough Hall is home to two AA Rosette restaurant ‘Chaloner’s’, a Revival Zone spa, 71 bedrooms and ‘G’ Bar and Bistro and has recently refurbished 39 of its bedrooms, its ballroom, drawing room and inner hall. The rolling programme of refurbishment is continuing with further bedrooms being revamped over the coming months.

The Grade II-listed country house was fully restored in 2002 following an investment of over £10 million by the Gisborough family, who privately own the hotel itself. The hotel is a Macdonald Associate hotel.
