In light of the latest government scandal highlighted in recent days, digital marketing agency, Glass Digital, have analysed Google data to identify the nation’s response.

There were over 100 thousand searches for ‘Dominic Cummings’ on Sunday, positioned as the 12th most searched trend that day:

They found that searches for the below phrases spiked after Mr Cummings was accused of breaking lockdown rules:

Breakout number of searches for ‘Barnard Castle’

Breakout number of searches for ‘Dominic Cummings son autistic’

Breakout number of searches for ‘Dominic Cummings wife birthday’

Breakout number of searches for ‘Dominic Cummings eyesight’

Glass Digital’s Outreach Team Lead, Marissa Pysarczuk, says:

“After last night’s press conference saw Dominic Cummings spend an hour explaining his reasoning for breaking lockdown rules with some puzzling excuses, it’s no surprise social media platforms trending sections were dominated by the story.”

“We decided to investigate how this scandal had impacted search trends and unsurprisingly, there has been enormous jumps in searches for Barnard Castle as many people try to wrap their heads around the alibi. However, searches also shot up for ‘Castle Barnard’ with many confusing the beauty spot’s name.”

“Breakout topics also show huge jumps for ‘Eye Test’, ‘Specsavers’ and ‘Barnard Castle tip advisor’ offering a glimpse into jokes many have been making at Cumming’s expense.”

Further to this, the hashtag #dominicstays is trending on Twitter with many using social media to show their anger over Mr Cummings actions:

Brits are going mad at the thoughts of Mr Cummings skirting the rules, with events being set up on Facebook such as ‘Drive to Barnard Castle for an eye test’:

As well as, Trip Advisor having to suspend activity on their Barnard Castle page as people leave joke reviews:
