Hambleton District Council’s first graduate accounting trainee has become a fully fledged accountant!
28 year old Laura Kaye has completed her four year training programme – which is part of a wider initiative from the authority which supports local businesses who take on apprentices and graduates.
Laura graduated from De Montfort University in 2012 with a first class honours in Accounting and Finance and then completed a Bachelor’s in International management from Ecole Superieure de Commerce in Rennes, France. She began working for the council as a Customer Services Officer – before transferring to the Corporate Finance department as a Finance Officer. Five months later she applied for – and was taken on as a Trainee Accountant.
“Our scheme can help young people who leave university with a degree but struggle to find a job in their chosen field,” said Council Leader, Councillor Mark Robson.
“Hambleton is no different from any organisation – and when a ‘specialist’ vacancy comes up we will, wherever possible, try to recruit an apprentice or a graduate. This is what happened in Laura’s case and we are delighted she has now completed her training with us.”
