Community led funding programme seeks local volunteers

North of Tyne Community Led Local Development (CLLD) seeks local volunteers to help manage a new funding programme in Newcastle and Wallsend.

The project, known as the North of Tyne CLLD (Community Led Local Development) will help businesses and people from the most disadvantaged communities in Newcastle and Wallsend to progress towards employment or entrepreneurship.

Volunteers will join the Local Action Group which oversees the CLLD programme and makes grant decisions. The Group consists of representatives from the voluntary, community, private and public sectors as well as residents. Those interested in becoming a member of the Group should visit:www.northoftyneclld.org.uk

Anthony Woods-Waters, the Chair of the Local Action Group said,

“We are now looking to further expand membership of the Group and recruit new members to help drive this new and exciting local funding programme. I’d encourage anyone interested in this very rewarding opportunity to make a difference across the most disadvantaged areas to get in touch. We’d be delighted to meet with you and discuss how you can become involved and what support will be on offer.”

North of Tyne CLLD, which will run till March 2022, offers grants to organisations rooted in their communities to help people and businesses from the most disadvantaged communities to develop and progress towards employment or entrepreneurship. Newcastle City Council, in partnership with North Tyneside Council, has secured around £2.1m for the CLLD programme from European Regional Development Fund and European Social Fund as part of 2014 to 2020 European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme.

Cllr Ged Bell, Newcastle Cabinet Member for Inclusive Growth said,

“I am absolutely delighted that we have secured funding for this very important project.  CLLD hopes to narrow the gap between the most and least well off areas by ensuring disadvantaged communities can access tailored support provided by organisations rooted in those communities. CLLD will be a great boost to our local economy and will help us drive towards a totally Inclusive City for all.”

Cllr Carole Burdis, North Tyneside Cabinet Member for Communities said,

“We are really pleased to be working with Newcastle on the CLLD project and recognise that particularly residents living in Wallsend and Walker, on the local authority boundary, share many of the same challenges. Projects supported by CLLD will give an opportunity to develop additional employment and business support services.”
