Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Heating spares company issues warning to ensure ‘Flame’ continue to light this winter

18507With winter on its way and news that the UK could be hit with record storms and freezing temperatures, Flame Heating Spares has issued a health warning to homeowners in preparation of the adverse weather conditions.

Temperatures are expected to drop to as low as -14C throughout the winter period and into the New Year, according to the Met Office, in what could prove to be Britain’s worst cold snap in 144 years.

The firm, which has four branches across the North East, is expecting its customers to receive an increase in the number of call outs during winter, in what is usually a busy time of year for tradesmen. In light of the severe weather warning, John Savage, Flame Heating Spares’ managing director, is advising people to ensure that their boilers and gas appliances are in full working condition to guard against any costly, and potentially life threatening, issues.

John said: “Throughout the winter period, temperatures can drop to extremely low levels and with the likelihood of further adverse weather on the way, the last thing any family needs is a problem with their boiler system, especially during the Christmas period.

“Another prevalent issue is carbon monoxide poisoning, which affects thousands of people across the country on account of outdated or unsafe boiler and gas appliances. It really is the silent killer, so it is vital that these appliances are checked and serviced regularly.”

According to statistics from the Chartered Institute of Housing, as part of its Gas Safety Week initiative, 23 million households in the UK, Isle of Man and Guernsey use gas in the home. However, 43% of Britons fail to check their appliances annually and 10% own gas appliances, which have never been checked.

John added: “More than 20 million homes across the UK use gas for heating and cooking in the home, so it is essential that these appliances are working correctly. By having a standard boiler service now, from a Gas Safe registered engineer, this reduces the chances of it becoming a bigger problem. It will also put your mind at ease and could even, potentially, save yours and your family’s life.”
