Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Historic family firm embraces a warmer, greener future

Barkers of Northallerton is going green with a modern, custom designed, environmentally friendly heating system.

Barkers Home is managed by Ian Barker, Home Store Director. Situated on Yafforth Road the store is well known throughout North Yorkshire and beyond, for selling top quality furniture, furnishings and fittings. A vital part of the operation is deliveries and that’s where the Distribution Warehouse on Standard Way in Northallerton comes in.

Sean Spence Distribution Manager explains “We were looking for the best environmentally friendly heating system that could maintain a constant temperature, ideal for furniture storage before delivery to our customers. We enlisted the help of Gary Oliver, a Darlington based heating engineer. He introduced us to re:heat, a team of biomass energy specialists based in Alnwick. Ben Tansey, a director of re:heat, came up with the plans for the heating system and now that the 350kW wood pellet boiler is installed we are proud to say that we have one of the best furniture storage and handling facilities in the country.”

Gary Oliver, Managing Director of G A Oliver Ltd, says “Barkers were an absolute pleasure to work with. They had a really clear idea of what they wanted to achieve and went out of their way to make our job easier. We worked very intensely to install the boiler and get it operational as fast as we could and it was one of the smoothest projects I’ve been involved in. re:heat’s service has been exceptional each time we have teamed up with them and we look forward to working with them again in the future.”

Ben Tansey agrees “Working with Barkers and with Gary has been a great experience. The project was completed so quickly and we were delighted to get the opportunity to team up with such an iconic local firm. The new boiler is now working perfectly and we are thrilled to hear that the team at the distribution centre are so pleased with it.”
