Hospice bowled over by club’s support

A MUCH-loved hospice has been bowled over by the support it has received in its fundraising efforts.

Members of Northallerton Bowling Club are the latest to help St Teresa’s Hospice by selling tickets for an annual car draw extravaganza.

For the past weeks members of the public have been buying prize tickets to win a brand new Vauxhall Corsa Griffin and there are now less than three weeks until the draw takes place.

The 1.4 hatchback boasts sat nav, Bluetooth, air conditioning, heated seats, heated steering wheel, automatic windscreen wipers, 16-inch black alloy wheels, tinted rear windows and electrically controlled heated door mirrors.

It was supplied for the charity by Vauxhall dealer Drive, which has garages in Darlington, Northallerton and Stockton.

Drive’s bodyshop advisor Les Potter is a social member of Northallerton Bowling Club and enlisted colleagues support at its annual open day.

He said: “The hospice is a great cause and Drive believes it is really important that local businesses support local charities.”

Club chairman Tom Alderson said: “St Teresa’s Hospice does a lot of amazing work all over the region and we are delighted to support it.”

All profits from the draw will go towards helping fund the hospice, on Woodland Road, Darlington, which provides free care and support for residents of Darlington, South West Durham and North-Yorkshire who are affected by life-limiting illness.

St Teresa’s Hospice chief executive Jane Bradshaw said: “St Teresa’s Hospice is there for the people who need it at their most challenging times. It costs in excess of £3m a year to run it so every penny raised is absolutely vital and I’m thrilled that Drive and Northallerton Bowling Club have done so much to help us.”

As well as the car, the prize draw features a host of other donated prizes, including a weekend break in the Lakes, a lawn mower and a pair of children’s bikes.

Tickets for the draw, which will take place on Friday, May 31, at 4pm, at Drive Vauxhall Darlington, cost £2 each and are available for sale from the hospice reception, all ten St Teresa’s charity shops, local supermarkets, shops and business premises.
