North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

A special drop-in session is being held on Thursday 1 September so residents can tell Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council what they think about the proposal which would see leisure, library and customer services under one roof.

Among the facilities being considered for the building are a main and learner swimming pool, a gym, health and fitness suite, exercise studio, soft play, a community library and a customer service point.

The community engagement event will take place in Ingleby Barwick Library on Blair Avenue between 4pm and 7.30pm.

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, Councillor Norma Wilburn, said: “Over last few months we have been working with All Saints CE Academy, the Diocese of York and the architects to develop some early designs and I’m delighted that we have now reached a stage where we can share those designs with local residents.

“I’d urge everyone living in and around Ingleby Barwick to come along to the drop-in session to find out more about the facility and see the early design proposals.  We would really like to hear your views as they will help inform the planning application that we will need to submit later this year.”

Subject to planning approval it is expected that work would start on site next year with the building opening to the public in 2018.

Once completed, the facility in Ingleby Barwick would be operated by Tees Active Leisure, which already operates three high quality fitness and leisure venues in the Borough on behalf of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.

Anyone who is unable to attend the drop-in session can find out more and share their views by emailing EGDS@stockton.gov.uk
