WORKS to ease congestion and increase capacity on a busy Ingleby Barwick roundabout are nearing completion.
Stockton Council is carrying out the improvements to Quarry Farm roundabout to prevent the build-up of traffic at peak times.
The final carriageway reconstruction, planning and surfacing are set to take place over the next couple of weekends to minimise disruption. The works are due to be completed by mid-September.
During the final works, Myton Way will be closed from 6pm on Saturday 5 September to around 4pm on Sunday 6 September and also onSunday 13 September between 8am and approximately 4pm during which north and south bound vehicles will be diverted via The Rings.
Once complete the enhanced roundabout will allow two lanes of traffic to travel straight ahead. A signal-controlled Puffin crossing on Myton Way and a Zebra crossing on The Rings have also been installed as part of the scheme.
Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, Councillor David Rose, said: “Quarry Farm Roundabout is a busy roundabout which links into surrounding roads including Queen Elizabeth Way, The Rings, Myton Way and Lowfields Avenue in Ingleby Barwick.
“Once it is finished the upgraded roundabout will help to ease congestion during peak times and protect the safety of pedestrians. I am pleased to see the final touches being made and would like to thank residents for their patience while the improvements have taken place.”
The improvements will increase the roundabout’s capacity before works to dual Ingleby Way and Myton Way (south) commence early next year.
