Clean for The Queen is a nationwide community campaign to clear up Britain in time for Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th birthday in April, which will be officially celebrated in June.
The main focus of the campaign was a national ‘litter blitz’ over the weekend of 4, 5 and 6 March when over a million people took part in Britain’s biggest ever clean-up of parks, streets, villages, beaches and waterways.
This is the first time that all of the anti-litter organisations have come together to support a UK-wide anti-litter campaign and it is hoped that this will set the precedent for an annual litter picking event that will engage local authorities, community groups, youth group, schools, businesses, individuals and more.
”Many of the residents of Kirkby Fleetham already do a litter pick on their regular walks around the villages,” said Alison Booth Chairman of Kirkby Fleetham Parish Council who organised the weekend litter blitz.
“But this is an excellent opportunity to highlight the unnecessary amount of litter that is left on our verges and hedgerows.”
Hambleton District Council’s Waste and Street Scene department supported the villages clean up with the loan of litter picking kits as well as picking up and disposing of the rubbish collected at the end of the event.
