Lloyd Newcastle gears up for NE1 Motor Show

Lloyd Newcastle is gearing up for the NE1 Motor Show with a rare vintage 1970s classic BMW, a car-top tent, a MINI racing car and an electric supercar.

The Barrack Road-based car retailer will be taking a host of show-stopping vehicles to Newcastle city centre as one of the key exhibitors and the Dealer Partner at the increasingly-popular event.

Lloyd is bringing a rare BMW M1 to the region. The eye-catching red number is a model dating back to the late 70s or early 80s and is being supplied to Lloyd especially for the show.

The very first M car, the BMW M1 was conceived to challenge Porsche in the mid 1970’s Sports Car Championship. The model on show in Grainger Street, Newcastle, was refurbished in 2016 in time for BMW’s centenary and celebrations at The Goodwood Festival of Speed.

As well as the vintage model, Lloyd will also be showcasing the futuristic BMW i8 hybrid supercar and the MINI Cooper John Cooper Works Challenge in Newcastle. Based on the ultimate performance MINI, the Challenge takes inspiration and specifications from the current Challenge racing car. Limited to a maximum of 100 units, the Challenge features a unique colour and graphics combination.

Motor Show visitors will also be able to see the new Autohome roof tent, a unique two-man tent which fixes atop the MINI Countryman, and is accessed via a ladder.

Michelle Caveney, Head of Business at Lloyd BMW and MINI said: “The NE1 Motor Show just keeps getting better every year and we’re absolutely thrilled to be such a key part of this year’s event as Dealer Partner.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to be able to see some of the most incredible car designs from decades gone by to the present day and we can’t wait to meet lots of fellow car enthusiasts during what promises to be a fantastic weekend.”

NE1 Newcastle Motor Show, which is a free event, takes place in the city centre on Saturday July 8 and Sunday July 9 from 10am to 4pm each day.
