A group of three engineers, who lost their jobs in the engineering industry as oil prices reached record lows, have decided to go it alone and have established a Hartlepool-based Engineering, Design & 3D laser scanning consultancy, Project Design Group Ltd (PDG).
The company, which is a member of NOF Energy & NEPIC, is managed by Andy Rhodes, a former design engineer who has worked for a number of international owner operators, including ExxonMobil, Shell, ConocoPhillips, BP, and major EPC’s such as Technip, KBR, AMEC, AKER, Worley Parsons, SBM, Heerema & KHI to name a few across the globe.
Utilising a combined total of more than 100 years of experience, the team specialise in Multi-Discipline Integrated Engineering & Design, Intelligent Digital 3D Modelling, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Auditing, 3D Laser scanning site surveying & 2D drawing deliverables to as-built status for multi-discipline commercial & engineering projects.
Project Design Group believe “For every physical asset, there should be a digital asset”
PDG can deliver better results, up to 60% in cost savings with its philosophy of standardisation, collaboration, on time, within budget and clash free engineering designs using its innovative engineering & design software, methods & lean operating costs.
Recognising the cost pressures that exist in the oil and gas industry, PDG is helping companies to reduce operating and capital expenditure with its competitive service provision, which delivers future savings using its digital intelligent modelling.

Andy Rhodes, Managing Director at PDG, said: “The team and I have made the best of an unfortunate situation and are now using the low oil price to our advantage – PDG believe where there is crisis there is opportunity.
“The whole of the oil and gas industry is looking to reduce costs and make efficiency gains wherever possible in order to make their projects commercially viable; our service will help to achieve both of these aims, which is why explains our initial success that we hope to build on.”
Paul Livingston, Business Development Manager at NOF Energy, said: “Andy and his team possess extremely valuable skills and their company is a welcome addition to the North East’s strong supply-chain sector.”
