Last year’s event led to Stockton’s High Street market achieving a Great British Market Award for hosting the ‘Best Love Your Local Market Event’ with its innovative ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ event held in May 2014.
The event saw Stockton’s iconic 700 year-old traditional market transformed into a hive of positivity as a team of Rediscover Stockton officers, market traders and businesses brought a feel-good factor to the High Street.
Events are being held this year at markets in Stockton, Thornaby and Billingham to mark the Love Your Local Market national fortnight and encourage people to visit and support the vibrant shopping experiences that can be found on their doorstep.
Councillor Mike Smith, Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, said: “The Love Your Local Market fortnight affords us the opportunity to turn the spotlight on to the range of brilliant and bustling markets that we have right across Stockton Borough.
“They offer a different shopping experience and I would like to encourage residents to come along, get involved with the fun and show their support for our local market traders.”
On Wednesday 27 May, between 10am-3pm, Stockton’s High Street market will host the ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ event again as unsuspecting shoppers will be treated to gifts ranging from free fruit, cups of tea or even a hug! Come along and experience the good vibes as traders give their customers a special thank you for their support.
On Thursday 28 May (Thornaby) and Friday 29 May (Billingham), both between 10am-3pm, the regular markets will host stalls with holders dressed in branded t-shirts with free face painting and balloons available for children.
