SUPER spicy chicken wings and a dustbin lid, loaded with Tex Mex treats, are just two of the challenges on offer at a Tyneside venue, for diners with super-sized appetites.
Starting this month, chefs at Osbornes, Osborne Road, Jesmond, are issuing a Man vs Osbornes challenge to anyone prepared to tackle giant sized portions, against the clock.
The challenge, on offer from 25 to 31 May and then during the last week of every month, gives foodies a choice of three dishes, which they must finish in a set time.
The first is the Hot Wings challenge in which diners have just 20 minutes to finish 10 chicken wings coated in an extremely spicy sauce created in-house from ghost chilli and herbs.
Alternatively, the Burger Challenge consists of four, 100 per cent beef, patties, two portions of skinny fries, onion rings and sides – all of which must be eaten in no more than 30 minutes.
However, the Dustbin Lid challenge is expected to prove the biggest draw with food fans keen to test their endurance – and waistbands – to the limit.
They will have just 45 minutes to finish a rack of baby back ribs, chicken wings, a double beef burger, a mug of chilli, two portions of skinny fries and sides.
And anyone who completes the challenge will receive a winners t-shirt, a growler – three pints – of beer and a photo in the Man vs Osbornes Hall of Fame.
“Whichever option they go for, challengers would be crazy to think this is a walk in the park,” said Atul Malhotra, director of Newcastle-based Malhotra Group plc, which owns Osbornes.
“Successful challengers will definitely need man – or woman – sized appetites, but the reward will be a place in our hall of fame and the chance to become a legend in their own lifetime.”
The Hot Wings Challenge costs £9.95 per person, the Burger Challenge is £16.95 and the Dustbin Lids costs £22.95.
Osbornes is open seven days a week, from 10am to 11pm and the challenge is open between noon and 9pm during the last week of every month.
