MEAD, mothers and murder are on the menu at one of the North East’s best loved venues in the coming weeks – although, thankfully, not at the same time.
They each feature among the packed programme of events at four-star Lumley Castle Hotel, Chester-le-Street, beginning on Friday 2 March with one of the venue’s famous Elizabethan banquets.
Also scheduled for Friday 16 and 23, these turn back the clock to 1595, with a five- course meal, goblets of wine and mead and entertainment from the Lords and Ladies of the Court, followed by a disco in the castle’s dungeon.
Then, on Sunday 4 and Friday 30, the hotel, which this year celebrates its 630th birthday, will provide the setting for two murder mystery events, when guests can enjoy either dinner or afternoon tea while solving a real-life mystery as it unfolds around them.
But it is mothers who take centre stage on Sunday 11, with a trio of treats including afternoon tea, a three-course lunch and the chance to stay in one of the castle’s unique bedrooms with dinner in its renowned Black Knight Restaurant.
Lumley’s Elizabethan Banquets cost £36.50 per person, with the Murder Afternoon Tea on 4 March and Motive for Murder on 30 March priced at £22.50 and £36.50 respectively.
On Mother’s Day,11 March, lunch costs £29.95 for adults and £15.95 for children, with afternoon tea at £20 for adults and £12.50 for children.
An overnight stay on this date is priced at £75 per person based on two people sharing and includes a dinner allowance from the a la carte menu.
