Mobility Scooter set to open up Flatts Lane Country Park

VISITORS to Flatts Lane Country Park who have limited mobility will be able to explore further than ever before thanks to a new rugged mobility scooter based at the visitor centre.

The idea for the scooter came from the Friends of Flatts Lane Country Park who became aware of issues for visitors who had mobility difficulties and couldn’t enjoy the full experience of the woodlands and the park.

After discussing their concerns with the council staff at Flatts Lane, the Normanby ward councillors – Billy Ayre, Brian Dennis, and Chris Foley-McCormack – funded a mobility scooter which will be free to use by members of the public.

Costing £1200, the scooter is robust and sturdy enough for use on the countryside trails which criss-cross the area. Visitors who wish to use it will have a short safety session – and quickly shown how to drive the scooter – and then they’ll be free to explore.

Cllrs Ayre, Dennis and Foley-McCormack said: “We are very pleased to have provided funding for this mobility scooter, we want everybody to be able to come and explore Flatts Lane Country Park regardless of any mobility issues so this is a really worthwhile acquisition. It will also have a benefit for locals who enjoy walking in the woods but might not be as able as they used to be.”
