NEWCASTLE-based fintech firm Allay UK has donated £5,125 to local cancer charity FACT – five times more than its fundraising target.

The much-needed funds will be used towards running support sessions for people in the region affected by asbestos related cancers.

Fundraising efforts saw nine members of the firm’s airFair team, which specialises in flight delay compensation, complete Total Warrior in August – a challenging 10K obstacle course.

Additionally, the Newcastle office was transformed for a Hawaiian Day, where employees came to work in their best holiday outfits, and in a bit of fun had the chance to purchase raffle tickets to custard pie their manager.

The firm’s ‘Employee of the Month’ scheme, which sees the employee of the month choose a local charity to receive a £2,000 donation from the company, was also added to the funds collected.

To help raise as much money as possible, Allay’s company directors doubled the amount raised from the Total Warrior and Hawaiian Day activity. In addition to this, the team collected clothes and toys and over 40 number of bags were donated to FACT’s seven charity shops in the region.

Steven Bell, Allay’s managing director, said: “Giving to local charities is very important to the company and something we do every month through our Employee of the Month scheme.  FACT is a fantastic example of a local good cause and we hope that the funds raised can go towards aiding the outstanding service it provides.

“Our Newcastle team really got behind the fundraising activity and had fun doing so. We hope to have formed a lasting relationship with FACT and look forward to supporting the charity in the future.”

FACT (Fighting All Cancers Together) supports cancer patients, their friends and families with services from counselling to wellbeing, and wig fitting to fun family days out across the region.

Joanne Smith, founder and CEO of FACT added: “When I visited the Allay office and was presented with the cheque, I was overwhelmed by the generous donation. I was told that the team had exceed their expected total of £1,000, but never imagined it would be by so much.

“We rely completely on donations, volunteers and sales from our seven charity shops across the region, and wouldn’t be able to do our vital work in the community without this income. The money raised by Allay will go towards funding our support services for people of all ages affected by cancer, including our new sessions focusing on asbestos related cancers.”
