Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

NEWCASTLE CROSSFIT GYM RANKS FITTEST IN THE UK

REEBOK CrossFit Tyneside is the UK’s fittest CrossFit affiliate after an impressive performance at the Europe Regional CrossFit Games.

Thanks to sponsorship from Newcastle-based company airFair, a quartet of CrossFit fanatics travelled to Berlin last month to represent the gym and compete against Europe’s best teams.

Jen Woodhouse, Andrew McCoy, Rosie McDonald and Stef Ligg flew the flag for the North East and were up against 29 teams from across northern and central Europe, including nine from the UK.

Taking on six tough events over three days designed to test their fitness, the team finished 11th overall; ahead of any other UK team; earning the gym the nation’s fittest title.

The good news comes as Reebok CrossFit Tyneside has welcomed its 800th member since expanding into larger premises in January 2017, growing its membership numbers by over 500% from 120 in 2016. Whether you are a veteran with dusted crossfit wrist wraps or a newbie, you will surely benefit from the membership.

Fitness entrepreneurs Jordan Wallace and Vanessa Lackenby moved the gym into the Ouseburn area to meet demand for CrossFit classes and high-quality fitness facilities.

Jordan commented: “I’m incredibly proud of the team’s performance, putting Reebok CrossFit Tyneside and the North East firmly on the map in the CrossFit world. airFair’s sponsorship allowed the team to travel and stay in Berlin which we’re really grateful for. The hard work doesn’t end there as we have our sights set on competing at the CrossFit Games in America next year, which is only open to the top five teams in Europe.

“Aside from competitions, the gym has gone from strength to strength since our relocation; our membership growth has been rapid and shows no signs of slowing.  It’s great to see so many people getting involved in CrossFit as it’s a huge passion of mine, whether for enjoyment and to keep fit, or to have the chance to be part of a team and compete.”

Steven Bell, managing director of airFair, which has its headquarters in Generator Studios in Newcastle said: “Jordan and Vanessa’s CrossFit operation is first class, opening up opportunities for those working and living in and around the Newcastle area to get into the sport. We didn’t hesitate to sponsor the team’s trip to Berlin and it’s great to hear how well they performed.”
