THE NORTH East businesswoman behind Newcastle Skin Clinic has opened the doors to Glam Squad Express, a champagne beauty bar providing make-up, hair styling and nail treatments to Newcastle’s stylish set.
35-year-old Luisa Scott recently expanded her business to the first floor in the townhouse at 68 Jesmond Road West in order to make way for her second start-up, which has also seen her partner with hair extensions specialist Mark Summers.
The basement floor has been fully refurbished into a chic, modern space to host Glam Squad Express services and Luisa has taken on five new members of staff to the team at the one-stop-shop beauty destination.
Alongside Luisa and Mark, make-up artists Rachael Dawson and Emily Rowell will take care of make-overs, Rachael Turnbull and Rebecca Heslop will ensure clients’ hair is preened to perfection and nail technician Zoe Needham will complete the look with manicures.
As part of the training, Luisa arranged for two industry leading experts to visit the salon – Tracey Jones, make-up artist to the stars who has worked on a number of TV shows including Strictly Come Dancing and David Fletcher, head of education for the hair salon within Urban Retreat at Harrods who launched luxury Ibiza blow dry bar Blowout and former senior art director at American hair company UNITE which supports global fashion weeks.
Luisa said: “I’m delighted to bring together a young group of talented professionals from across the region to form our seven-strong Glam Squad and introduce a unique service to Newcastle.
“It was fantastic to have Tracey and David visit us from London for a training day which the team all loved. They picked up some quick tips and it really helped them to hone their skills.”
At Newcastle Skin Clinic, Luisa has already built up an impressive client base which includes Newcastle models and celebrities and hopes Glam Squad Express will appeal to even more of the North East’s fashionable faces.
Luisa continued: “We provide a variety of services from a quick blow-dry style to a full VIP makeover. Each client is normally finished within one hour, making our salon the perfect spot to get ready for a night out, corporate event or special occasion.”
The salon’s Jesmond location, with on-street parking, means that whilst being convenient for Newcastle city centre, clients can also feel at ease going in bare-faced before unveiling their finished look.
Alternatively, small groups of friends can book the Glam Squad’s services exclusively to get ready with a glass of champagne in the beauty bar and enjoy a party atmosphere.
