Food lovers from across the North East are being invited to celebrate all things char-grilled at the region’s newest restaurant.
From Monday (May 30) to Sunday (June 5), the Karbon Grill Kitchen and Bar, Sunderland will be firing up its Josper Grill for National BBQ Week 2016.
The festival, now in its 20th year, is designed to promote gastro-grilling and increase the number of barbecues being held each year.
To mark the occasion, the Karbon Grill will be serving a wide range of chargrilled favourites, all cooked to order on its enclosed barbecue, the Josper Grill.
This includes half roasted chicken with a piri piri or smokey and sweet chipotle glaze, Cajun blackened supreme stone bass and prime whole baked Canadian lobster, all served with chunky chips or jacket potato, balsamic onions, roasted tomato, grilled mushrooms and a choice of sauce.
The restaurant, adjacent to Sunderland’s Stadium of Light, will also be serving a range of signature, 28 day-aged steaks, including an 8oz New York strip steak, 160z Porterhouse steak and 32oz Tomahawk rib eye steak, designed for sharing.
“Barbecues have grown increasingly popular over the past few years,” said Karbon Grill’s head chef, Luca Tomassetti, “with the team behind National BBQ Week estimating that more than 130 million took place in 2015.
“This year we’re giving the chance to indulge their love of chargrilled foods without having to worry about the clean up afterwards and hope that people from across the North East will join us here at the Karbon Grill next week.”
Prices at the Karbon Grill Kitchen and Bar start at £13 for dishes from the Josper Grill, with a wide range of alternatives also available on the full a la carte menu.
