Martin Murphy, a local teacher from Northumberland’s Horton Grange Primary school in Blyth was selected to attend the Teacher’s Institute held in the Houses of Parliament.
As part of a selected group from more than 100 applicants, Martin Murphy attended the Teachers Institute which provided attendees with valuable experience and knowledge about politics and democracy. Throughout the event, Martin was able to participate in Q&A sessions with the Speaker and Lord Speaker along with attending talks from parliamentarians of all parties about their work in the Commons and Lords.
The Teacher’s Institute is a 3 day event held at the Houses of Parliament in which the attendees are invited to a range of talks and workshops, allowing them a unique opportunity to gain further learning and knowledge about politics and Parliament. The focus of the event is to provide training, resources and support for teachers, helping them to engage their students across the curriculum in learning about parliament and democracy.
Martin Murphy said: “The event has been an invaluable experience, which allowed me to really immerse myself in the fascinating world of politics. This was a great opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of democracy and I will be passing on my further knowledge and experience to the teachers and pupils of Horton Grange Primary School.”
