Opencast-Tom-Lawson-2Chief Executive ... Tom Lawson

INDEPENDENT technology consultancy Opencast has reached an impressive milestone, recruiting its 500themployee and securing a place on a key strategic government framework.

A cohort of new employees has taken Opencast’s headcount to 503, with new hires across the UK, including in Newcastle, London and Leeds. Beyond its permanent workforce, Opencast’s team now extends to more than 640 through its network of trusted associates and partner organisations – delivering an even bigger impact for its clients.

The company has expanded rapidly in 2025 through major contract wins in the public and private sectors. This includes new work with the Home Office and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, as well as growth at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), HM Revenue and Customs, Ministry of Justice, the Department for Education, NHS England and NHS Business Service Authority.

Securing its position on the strategic Crown Commercial Service Technology Services 4 (TS4) Framework (estimated £16bn total value) will provide Opencast with access to new opportunities to support public sector clients.

Founded in 2012, Opencast specialises in designing, building and running user-centred digital and technology solutions. Its work for UK Government and healthcare includes developing services that provide support for millions of citizens, employees, businesses, patients and clinicians.

The company has won many awards for its rapid growth, including recognition in the Sunday Times as one of the UK’s fastest growing companies and it was featured in the Financial Times 1000: Europe’s Fastest-Growing Companies 2025 ranking. The company has also been recognised for its collaborative approach to partnership working, with an award from the Institute of Collaborative Working.

Sanjay Baranwal is one of the new starters that have taken Opencast past the 500-employee mark. Sanjay joined the company as a Senior DevOps Consultant, after a career across multiple tech sectors working around the globe.

Sanjay has worked in software for 28 years. He said: “I knew of Opencast through some work I was doing with DWP and I’m really enjoying working with the company. Opencast has such a great ‘people’ culture and our Newcastle headquarters, where I’m based, are fantastic. The work is incredibly interesting.”

Opencast Chief Executive Tom Lawson said: “Hitting such a significant milestone to end 2025 is a fantastic achievement and testament to the energy and hard work of our team – and the partners and clients that have made this milestone achievable. We’re excited to see our expansion continue across the UK, enabling us to extend our reach and take on new challenging client projects and work with new and diverse partners.

“And we’re still hiring – we have vacancies across user centred design, software development, quality assurance, data and business analysis, product delivery and architecture. Our latest vacancies can be found here https://opencastsoftware.com/careers/vacancies/all-vacancies/

“In 2026, we will focus on delivering on the strategic wins secured this year, while continuing to balance sustainable growth, profitability and impact – supporting our ambition to be the UK’s leading purpose-driven technology consultancy.”
