Grace House is delighted to announce that Paralympian Matt Wylie MBE has become a Patron of the charity.

Matt is a local lad, born and raised in Sunderland who has cerebral palsy and underwent a series of operations between 2004 and 2007 after a tumour was discovered on his leg. Following medical advice he took up swimming as part of his recovery. After success in the European Championships in 2014 and 2016 he then went on to win a Gold Medal in the Men’s 50m Freestyle S9 competition at the Rio Paralympics in 2016.

Matt met with Victoria Brown, Chief Executive at Grace House and was so impressed with the work that was done here that he agreed to support the charity by becoming Patron.

Victoria said “Matt is an inspirational figure and has demonstrated what can be achieved through his courage, determination and hard work. Therefore, we are delighted that Matt has agreed to become part of the Grace House team and support us as a Patron. Everyone at Grace House is very excited to have him on board”

Matt said “I am happy to support such vital work in Sunderland. The charity aims to help children with complex disabilities and their families. Seeing the amazing facilities that Grace House provides, is proof of the dedicated work of all involved.”
