Pimp My Trolley competition win for Tyneside care home

A TYNESIDE care home’s sweets and snacks trolley has been turned into a traditional ice cream stand – winning funds for its residents.

Willowdene Care Home, in Hebburn, near Gateshead, was picked from dozens of entries in the Hill Care Group’s Pimp My Trolley competition.

They have been awarded £125 for their entry, designed to look like a traditional seaside attraction.

Staff and residents all took part in decorating the trolley, using ribbon-wrapped cardboard rolls donated by a nearby carpet company, cutout paper decorations and bunting.

Resident Jimmy Mahoney said: “I really enjoyed helping to put the ribbons on the poles.”

Christine Chandler, activities coordinator at Willowdene Care Home, on Victoria Road West, said: “We were delighted to win the Pimp My Trolley competition.

“All the winnings will go into our residents’ fund, which contributes towards day trips and activities for the residents.”

The Pimp My Trolley competition, which follows the concept of hit noughties MTV show Pimp My Ride, was organised by the Hill Care Group.

The group operates care homes across the north of England, including Willowdene Care Home.

Wendy Waddicor, Hill Care managing director, said: “We wanted to brighten the otherwise ordinary looking sweets and snacks trolleys in our homes and thought a competition would encourage our residents and staff to get their creative caps on.

“We had some brilliant entries and I’d like to thank all our homes for taking part. I’m sure the newly decorated trolleys will be a big hit with residents and visitors.”
