Planned roadworks in the North East: summary for Monday 25 April to Sunday 1 May 2016

s300_M42_dusk_940x600The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 22 April but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar

There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day. From Monday 25 April to Sunday 1 May there will be a carriageway closure southbound between Scotch Corner and junction 51, and northbound between junction 50 and Scotch Corner. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by spring 2017.

A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead

Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work is carried out to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. There will be a carriageway closure northbound at junction 68 with a diversion up and over the interchange. The southbound carriageway will be closed between junctions 69 and 67, and a closure up and over at junction 70. These closures will take place from Monday 25 to Friday 29 April between 8pm and 6am. The project is due to be completed by early summer 2016.

A1 Morpeth, Northumberland

There will be work ongoing until the end of 2016 for the construction of a bypass. There will be various phases of daytime and night time lane and carriageway closures, with narrow lanes and a 40mph speed restriction in place. There will be a northbound carriageway closure on Monday 25 April, a north and southbound carriageway closure on Tuesday 26 April, and a southbound carriageway closure on Wednesday 27 April. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am, with a diversion in place. There will also be a 24 hour lane closure in place north and southbound until the project is completed.

A66 South Thorpe to Hutton Magna, County Durham

There will be a 24 hour contraflow in operation east and westbound for resurfacing work. This will take place until Sunday 8 May.

A66 Surtees Bridge, Stockton on Tees

There will be a lane closure eastbound for inspection work. This will take place Tuesday 26 April between 11am and 3.30pm.

A696 Black Callerton, Newcastle Upon Tyne

There will be a lane closure on the southbound entry and exit slip road for electrical work. This will take place from Wednesday 20 April until Wednesday 4 May, between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

A19 Wallsend to Tyne Tunnel, North Tyneside

There will be a carriageway closure in place northbound for resurfacing work. This will take place until Wednesday 27 April between 9pm and 6am, with a diversion in place.

A19 Holystone to Moor Farm, North Tyneside

There will be a carriageway closure in place northbound for resurfacing work. This will take place Thursday 28 to Saturday 30 April between 8pm and 6am, with a diversion in place.
