North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

The panel’s role is to assist and scrutinise the work of Cleveland’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Barry Coppinger, by acting as “a critical friend”.

The Commissioner is required to consult with the panel on his plans and budget for policing, as well as Council Tax precepts, and the appointment of a Chief Constable.

The panel is made up of representatives from each of the four local authorities in the force area, and two independent co-opted members.

The terms of office of the existing independent co-opted members will expire on December 6.

The panel is seeking committed and energetic people who either live or work within the Cleveland Force Area, to serve as co-opted independent members.

The successful applicants will start their four-year terms of office in December, and are typically required to commit one day every two months or so to the panel’s work.

Meetings are generally held in late afternoons or early evenings, and it is proposed that they will be held alternately at Stockton’s Municipal Buildings and at Cleveland Police HQ.

All panel members receive induction and other appropriate training, and are able to claim reasonable travelling and subsistence expenses.
