A residential development site in Preston is being marketed for sale.
Harris Knowledge Park in Fulwood, Preston comprises 6.2ha (15.33 acres) of development land and buildings, including the Grade II listed former Harris Orphanage.
Cushman & Wakefield is marketing the site and is seeking both conditional and unconditional offers on a freehold basis.
The site comprises twelve Grade II listed structures including a Chapel, School, Master’s House, eight houses, Gate Lodge, Milestone and War Memorial. The Park is an early example of a charitable orphanage, laid out as a group of village homes around a village green.
It was acquired by the Harris Trustees in 1861 and Harris Orphanage opened in 1888. In 1940 it was leased to Lancashire County Council which ran it as a children’s home until 1982 before it was bought by Preston Polytechnic and used as student accommodation. In 2000, Preston Polytechnic became the University of Central Lancashire which developed the site as Harris Knowledge Park.
The recreation ground to the rear is suitable for 65 residential dwellings, and the conversion of the existing buildings to create 10 dwellings, two townhouses and six new apartments and a further three executive style new build detached properties.
