PUPILS transformed their school into a Brazilian carnival as they marked a week of wellbeing with a South American celebration of the Olympics.
Staff and pupils at Heathfield Academy, Darlington, invited the mayor Brian Jones to join the celebrations, the culmination of their studies.
Dance, rap, music and creative arts whet the appetite of nursery to Year 6 pupils as the countdown begins to the Rio Olympic Games.
Professional dancers Darrien Wright and Rachel Coad worked with pupils on a host of routines, from samba to salsa, with Coun Jones joining the children on the dance floor.
Pupils also paraded in brightly coloured masks and headdresses and performed in Portuguese, the national tongue of Brazil.
Assistant head teacher Sue Wilson said: “We have had the most incredible week and the children and staff have all been fantastic.
“We have managed to cover everything from British values and the Queen’s birthday to carnival dance and therapeutic interventions including massage and breathing techniques.
“Everyone has completely thrown themselves into the week of activities and the carnival parade showed just how much they have learned and enjoyed themselves.”
