Drivers are advised that the road will be closed between the Pelaw Bank junction and Highfield Rise during the day on Saturday 12 March and Sunday 13 March for preparation works.

The road will then be closed along the same stretch from 9.30am until 3.30pm from Monday 14 March until the work is due to be completed on Friday 18 March.

John Reed, Durham County Council’s head of technical services, said: “To enable the project to be carried out quickly and safely, for both the workforce and public, it is necessary to close the road while work takes place during off-peak hours from Monday to Friday.

“We appreciate that this essential scheme has the potential to cause disruption and we would like to thank the public for their patience while these works, which are part of our ongoing maintenance programme, are completed.”

Diversion routes will be in place (please see attached map) and signed appropriately.

Extra traffic management operatives will also be on hand to advise motorists, particularly residents, during the closures.

Bus services to Newcastle will be diverted via Picktree Lane and Park Road North and services from Newcastle will divert via Blind Lane and Picktree Lane. As soon as the closures are removed each day buses will revert back to their normal routes.
