Members of South Tyneside Council’s Place Select Committee will receive a presentation highlighting the aims and intentions of the North East Combined Authorities’ (NECA) 20 year transport Manifesto ‘Our Journey. The manifesto covers transport for both urban and rural areas of Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Sunderland.

The manifesto will feed into the local transport plan for the combined authority area and will set out how the NECA intends to deliver on its ambition to promote affordable, attractive, reliable, safe and healthy transport choices for business, residents and visitors

Councillor Nancy Maxwell, Chairman of the Place Select Committee, said: “It is crucial for South Tyneside and the wider region to have efficient and reliable transport systems in place to promote economic growth.

“It is important to asses our current transport plans and discuss how this new manifesto can help to ensure residents, whether traveling by car, public transport or by bike can access local and regional services, leisure and job opportunities.

“For South Tyneside, in particular, as a coastal destination, it is important that visitors to the region can travel to and from the Borough by using reliable and safe transport to allow them to see the attractions and access experience the events we have to offer across the Borough.”
