TWO top Italian eateries are once again staging their own version of Newcastle’s Restaurant Week, bringing deals to diners in the suburbs.
From 7 to 20 August, Scalini’s, at Great North Road, Gosforth and Osborne Road, Jesmond, will be offering special rates on set menus devised specially for the occasion by their head chefs.
This is the fourth year running in which the Scalini’s restaurants have run their NE2 and NE3 weeks, which coincide with the popular NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week, when diners can eat at a variety of venues at reduced prices.
This year, diners at Scalini’s can choose any two courses for just £10 or all three courses for £13 from a menu which starts with pea and ham hock soup with basil pesto, hot smoked salmon bruschetta with cream cheese or crispy pigs’ cheeks with courgette relish and garlic mayonnaise.
Main course options include chicken cacciatore, pan fried sea bass with chorizo, spinach, pappardelle pasta and tomato and basil dressing and homemade gnocchi baked with gorgonzola, spinach and leeks.
For dessert, diners can then choose a selection of ice creams or sorbets, homemade tiramisu or pear and almond tart served with pistachio ice cream.
Marcin Szmycinski, newly appointed operations manager at Malhotra Group plc, which owns the Scalini’s restaurants, said: “Our NE2 and NE3 restaurant fortnight has built up a pretty dedicated fan base and we’re hoping to build on that this year.
“Our head chefs at both have joined forces to create a menu that veers away from pizza and pasta and really pays tribute to traditional Italian cookery.”
