Andy Ward and his partner Claire will be celebrating Christmas in style after moving into their new family home.
Using Thirteen’s shared ownership scheme, the couple, who recently moved from Skelton Green, have been able to set up home in a new build at Larkfields in Saltburn.
Both Andy and Claire had aspirations to get on the property ladder but when Claire had an accident a few years ago and Andy became her carer, they thought buying their own home was out of reach.
Andy started researching the ownership options available and he came across shared ownership. He said: “The more I looked into shared ownership the more I thought it would be a great way for us to get on the property ladder.
“It gave us the opportunity to buy a stake in our home by taking out a mortgage on a percentage of the property’s value. It basically meant we could still afford to buy our new home.
“We were originally looking at moving to Normanby but when we saw an advert for the shared ownership option being offered for new builds by Thirteen in Saltburn, we just knew it was where we wanted to live, and we feel really lucky.
“I would definitely recommend shared ownership to anyone who needs a bit of extra support to get on the property ladder. The process was really straightforward, and the team at Thirteen were fantastic, they were so helpful and supported us every step of the way.”
Now, having settled into the new home Andy added: “It’s been an amazing time for us. We’re getting married next year, and we can’t believe we’ve just moved into our dream family home that we thought we’d be waiting years for.”
