Sharks ready to re-group

DBL Sharks Sheffield are set to re-group following one of their most unsettled starts to a campaign.

In the wake of pre-season injuries and the release of personnel, the Sharks have been forced to battle on without replacements as the Molten 2016 BBL Play-Off Final winners look to continue competing at the highest levels.

Held up by immigration permit issues, the Sharks have now resolved matters and will be looking to bring in new faces to strengthen their position in time for the start of the forthcoming BBL Cup and BBL Trophy campaigns.

Head coach Atiba Lyons has been working on a number of options to replace the open permit spots, but without the ability to actually bring them into the country, his hands have been tied.

“It has been frustrating for everyone to not be able to move forward as efficiently as we usually do, but we needed to make the changes for a number of reasons,” stated the play-caller.

“Now I can look forward to introducing additional Sharks players over the next few weeks and pulling us back to our goals.”

The Sharks will face the Glasgow Rocks this Friday, but are uncertain on how the team will look.

“I am not sure if I will get the guys I want by then,” continued Lyons.

“But this is a long season and we are not going to rush anyone – I hope our fans will have more to smile about in Sheffield on the 28 October at our next home game”.

Meanwhile the club’s Managing Director, Sarah Backovic added, “We had to use an unprecedented amount of licences this season for various reasons, and as such, had to wait to replenish a number of permits.

“Normally this takes a matter of days, but I guess there is a lot going on since Brexit and the delay left us somewhat weakened in recent weeks.

“It has been one of those administrative issues you cannot predict, but considering the position, the team have battled hard and we are pleased with their efforts,” concluded Backovic.
