STOCKTON-ON-TEES Borough Council’s Cabinet will consider proposals to extend the Council’s funding agreement with Tees Active Limited this week.
The non-profit distributing company was established 12 years ago to operate leisure facilities and activities across the Borough on behalf of the Council.
Throughout the last decade the Council and Tees Active Limited have developed a strong strategic partnership which has seen both organisations invest in facility improvements and plan services.
On Thursday 11 February the Council’s Cabinet will decide whether to approve a recommendation which would see the Council enter a new funding agreement to allow Tees Active Limited to continue to deliver leisure services beyond 2019.
Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, Councillor Bob Cook, said: “Throughout the duration of the Council’s partnership with Tees Active Limited our Borough has enjoyed considerable investment in its leisure buildings including Billingham Forum, Splash, Thornaby Pavilion and the Northshore building at Tees Barrage which have significantly enhanced the leisure facilities available for our residents.
“What is even more encouraging is that we are seeing even more people participating in activities offered at our Borough’s leisure facilities. Since 2004 participation has increased by 24 per cent and Tees Active has also supported individuals in receipt of certain benefits by offering a special “Option 3” leisure card free of charge which entitles the holder to up to 50 per cent discount on a range of activities.”
Participation by Option 3 users increased 43 per cent between 2004-2012.
Tees Active Limited manage Billingham Forum, Splash, Thornaby Pavilion, Thornaby Pool and the River Tees White Water Course including the Air Trail which will open on Saturday 13 February.
