ONE OF Stockton Borough’s most popular sporting events has been recognised with a regional award.
The Stockton Duathlon, which attracted close to one thousand participants in April 2015, has won the Triathlon England regional ‘Event of the Year’ award in the commercial partner category.
Councillor Norma Wilburn, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: “This award is welcome recognition of the hard work of the Council, excellent partnership work with our event partner Trihard and the effort of all the participants who come together every year to make sure that the Stockton Duathlon is a key event in the North East’s sporting calendar.
“It is a timely boost for all involved as we look ahead to next year when we will host the Triathlon England National Duathlon Championships in April.
“We are also the home of cycling next summer when we host the 2016 British Cycling National Road Championships in June. This all contributes to our already stellar and international reputation as an events and sporting Borough.”
