SCHOOL children have been experiencing college life in an initiative designed to introduce them to further education.
Richmond School and Sixth Form College hosted a taster day for Year 11 students as they consider their options for learning.
Richmond School students were joined by their peers from Wensleydale School, Leyburn, St Francis Xavier, Richmond, Bedale High School and Risedale Sports and Community College, Hipswell, Catterick, for a day in the labs, classrooms and studios.
Student ambassadors were on hand to guide young visitors around facilities and offer an honest appraisal of life at Richmond Sixth Form College.
Assistant headteacher Leslie Richardson said: “The move from school to college can be daunting for young people but at Richmond Sixth Form we endeavour to ease the transition with days like this and the fact we are small enough to get to know every student extremely well and meet their specific needs.
“Our student ambassadors again did a fantastic job in welcoming the students, allaying any fears and passing on the real benefits of college life here. We have had more applicants than ever before which is a great endorsement of our sixth form provision.”
Students were also given an insight into higher education with sessions on degree courses and university life.
