Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Sunday for Sammy The man behind the scenes

Screen Shot 2016-02-24 at 16.33.33The legendary Sunday for Sammy concert has been held every two years since 2000 and raises funds to support performers, writers and directors at the outset of their careers and also to fund projects that enable them to follow their dreams.

The cast list is a closely guarded secret but for every TV, music or other star, there are an army of people working behind the scenes who rarely get recognition but their work is seen by many.

Artist Geoff Laws worked for 35 years for the Evening Chronicle, Journal and Sunday Sun as well as the Daily Mirror where his caricatures helped to illustrate TV and political pages. The award winning artist has also created stage sets and figures for The Dodgy Clutch Theatre Co including and huge Alice in Wonderland character at Antony House on the South Coast.

However, Geoff from Jesmond, has, for the 3rd time, offered his artistic skills to Sunday for Sammy by designing the projected backdrops for the Auf Wiedershen Pet parts of the show.

“It’s great fun designing for the show, my original paintings are converted into a programme that enables them to be magnified onto the City Hall stage. I’ve had to take measurements of the stage and take into account where the stars will stand to make sure that everyone can see the whole backdrop.”

Sunday for Sammy, the ever-popular “Geordie Command Performance” will be staged at Newcastle City Hall at 2pm and 7pm on 28th February 2016.
