A group of talented students have been chosen to exhibit at one of the leading galleries in the North East.
Gateshead College students across a range of art-based courses were given the opportunity to showcase their final projects at the exhibition in BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art’s Level 1 Space.
Twenty of the best art and design, TV and film and video students were offered the opportunity by industry experts at the Gateshead Quays-based gallery.
Vicky Sturrs, schools and colleges programmer at BALTIC said: “We work with students on great opportunities and initiatives through our partnership with Gateshead College – including the chance to exhibit their work.
“This year has seen an incredible amount of talent – it has been the best yet in terms of standards and choice for us. The students have really proven their professionalism, creativity and their ability to create great pieces across a range of different genres.
“We look forward to continuing our partnership and seeing what students are producing for years to come.”
Gateshead College student Alan Ure stood out to the judges thanks to his colourful designs and textiles used to craft cushion cases.His dedication at Gateshead College earned him a 14 week placement at Newcastle based advertising agency Double Concentrate and a place at De Montfort University, studying Graphic Design, in September.
Alan, who is 18 and from Newcastle said: “The exhibition was a great opportunity to develop our skills both technically and professionally. We all really enjoyed the experience and the feedback we gained from everyone who attended was a real confidence boost.
“I am now looking forward to starting my career in an internship at Double Concentrate and moving to university in Leicester thanks to Gateshead College. I learnt a lot of new skills through my course whilst building my experience with projects like this which help us get ready for work.”
BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art also has a history of providing apprenticeships to Gateshead College students, with a number of successful candidates completing office-based work-based learning programmes and carrying on to full time employment during the five year partnership.
Gateshead College students also benefit from free life-drawing masterclasses, careers events and the opportunity to take part in exclusive creative competitions; which has seen previous winners gain valuable work experience at the BALTIC and other local creative organisations.
