A HIGHLIGHT of Stockton Town Centre’s specialist markets programme is set to return when sci-fi market Kapow lands on Saturday 10 June between 10am and 4pm.

Bringing together an array of exciting features including a wizard school, wand-making workshop, a huge 3.5metre high animatronic dragon, Daleks, superheroes and storm troopers – the market will have something to offer sci-fi fans of all ages and is free to attend.

The unique market will see traders selling a range of sci-fi, TV and film related toys, actions figures and collectables.

Along with the chance to snap up collectables, families and visitors of all ages can enjoy a packed day of displays, workshops and activities all while enjoying the sweet treats and drinks on offer.

Reuben Kench, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Director of Culture, Leisure and Events, said: “Kapow is one of our most popular and distinctive specialist markets, bringing fantastical worlds and creatures to life in the town and appealing to the huge sci-fi and comic book following.

“There will be something there for every member of the family so I’d encourage everyone to come down to Stockton Town Centre and enjoy a fantastic day out at Kapow.”

Karen Hindhaugh, Stockton Business Improvement District (BID) Manager, said: “We have an amazing programme of activities and traders lined up for this next edition of the Kapow market which is always very popular.

“There’ll be so much to see and do including a magic show, bird of prey display and one highlight I’m looking forward to will be the arrival of the 3.5metre high dragon who I am sure will be wowing the crowds.”

There will also be extra special treats on offer for Doctor Who fans as former assistant Katy Manning, who played Jo Grant to Jon Pertwee’s Doctor, will make a guest appearance to tell her tales from the Tardis as to what it was really like to help your best friend save the world.

Gary Pollard also joins the stellar line-up for the day. A revered industry sculptor for more than 30 years, Gary has worked on films such as Star Wars, Harry Potter and Little Shop of Horrors. Hailing from Redcar, Gary’s passion for sci-fi and horror from an early age has led him to pursue monster making as a career and has most recently made prosthetics for Game of Thrones.

The market is being run in partnership between Stockton BID, Wellington Square and Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and will centre around a marquee on the High Street.
