Since opening on 15 December 2014, the popularity of the bar and restaurant in Monument Mall has exceeded expectations with this Christmas period set to build on last year’s successful first few weeks.
On launching, The Botanist announced it would be partnering with CHUF as its nominated charity for 2015 and as the New Year approaches, the total raised so far stands at over £3,800.
A donation of 25p from each children’s meal purchased this year has been pledged to CHUF, which raises funds for the Children’s Heart Unit at the Freeman Hospital. It provides world-class care to critically ill babies, children and young people, and throughout December, £1 from every reservation goes towards the charity.
The Botanist general manager Andrew Shiel-Redfern also took on the personal challenge of taking part in the Great North Run and as a result, was able to raise £1,100 for his effort.
Andrew said: “It’s a fantastic feeling to be able to give back to the local community in some way, especially at this time of year and for such a deserving cause. The support I received for the Great North Run was overwhelming and I’m so grateful for everyone who sponsored me.
“We still have a few more weeks to add to the running total and are confident we can make it to £5,000. We can’t wait to hand over the cheque to the team at CHUF which does such fantastic work for children and their families in the region – we’ll certainly be ending the year on a high.”
