SPRING IS in the air at Sunderland’s the Bridges, which is great news for parents wanting to keep their youngsters entertained during the up-coming half term.
The shopping centre is delivering a range of free, family friendly activities inspired by the new season, with a special nod to nature.
The fun kicks off on Tuesday 27 May, when the centre will be hosting a range of themed workshops all around butterflies and bugs.
Youngsters can enjoy making wooden 3D butterflies and butterfly life cycle wheels, butterfly masks and bug magnets, jigsaws and masks.
On Thursday 29 May the session will be sky-high, based on the themes Suncatchers and Rainbows.
Here children can enjoy making rainbow heart mosaics, rainbow wands and suncatchers.
Sessions on both days run from 10am until 3pm, with bug-themed storytelling taking place at 11am and 1pm.
Young people also have the opportunity to take part in another activity which is not to be sniffed at – bath bomb making workshops in collaboration with Lush on 28 and 30 May.
The workshops will be held at 11am and 12 noon and cost £5 to make Luna’s Butterfly and £4 for Toby’s Magic Cow. They must be booked in advance as places are limited.
The Bridges’ soft play area for the under fives will also be open from Saturday 24 May to Sunday 1 June, costing £2 a child.
Karen Eve, Centre Director at the Bridges, believes the programme has something for everyone.
“We’re really celebrating spring with a whole host of nature-related activities which we are sure young people will love,” she said.
“It’s a great way for families to enjoy fun, spring-themed activities together – making memories and getting creative as a family.”
