A mother and son are following in each other’s footsteps having both enrolled on the same computing degree after visiting Teesside University for an open day.
Jayne Wright and her son Auslien are in the first year of their BSc (Hons) Computer Animation and Visual Effects.
It was while accompanying her son to an open day at Teesside University that Jayne too decided to enrol after being impressed by the facilities and the expertise of staff.
The pair are now well into their first year and are happy to have each other for support.
Teesside University is hosting another undergraduate open day on Saturday 7 January, from 10.00am to 2.00pm. Potential students will have the opportunity to find out about courses and facilities, as well as get information on accommodation, finance and support services. “It is great to be studying together and to work as a team,” explained Jayne.
“We help each other out a lot. I love drawing so can give Aussie some advice in that area and he gives me tips on the more technical aspects of computer animation. We work well together.”
This is not the first time the mother and son have paired up. They studied alongside each other to complete a photography HND and have also staged various events together.
Auslien, 23, said: “It has been a positive experience studying at Teesside so far and the lectures are really fulfilling. It is nice to have my mam alongside me and to know we are both working towards the same goal.”
Jayne commutes to Teesside University from her home in Ponteland, in Northumberland, while Auslien is taking advantage of the student accommodation.
“I had always wanted to continue onto a degree, but never thought I would be doing it at the same time as my son – it makes me feel really proud,” explained Jayne.
“Originally, I only came with him for the open day but I just fell in love with the University straight away. It is a great environment and the lecturers are inspirational. It just felt like the perfect place for both of us.”
