Screen Shot 2015-06-05 at 15.57.51PEOPLE with a passion for Teesside’s most famous landmark are invited along to the Transporter Bridge Visitor Centre on Tuesday, June 9 at 11am for a gathering to form a Friends of the Tees Transporter Bridge group.

It is hoped that the group will help support the activities of the HLF supported Tees Transporter Bridge Visitor Experience Project and promote the iconic structure through activities, events and fundraising.

Bridge Supervisor John Ivison said: “The Transporter Bridge is a hugely popular and we have already had a number of people express an interest in forming a friends group. A friends group will help support the activities at the Bridge and spread the word about our famous landmark.”

Laura Forbes, a Teesside University student who is assisting with the Tees Transporter Bridge Visitor Experience Project added: “The Friends group offers an opportunity for the public to use their interest in the Bridge and the area’s heritage for the benefit of the Transporter. The group will help build upon the work of the team at the Bridge in celebrating the area’s history whilst helping the Transporter prosper as a visitor attraction.”

Light refreshments will be provided for those who attend, with parking available close to the Bridge. Organisers ask that those wishing to attend or be involved with the Friends group contact transporterbridge@middlesbrough.gov.uk or call 01642 728818.
