Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Triple Success for North Star

Last week, local housing association, North Star Housing Group, was celebrating triple success for its work nationally and regionally.

North Star is a highly innovative, award winning housing association operating across the North East and North Yorkshire. They are well known for ‘punching above their weight’ and demonstrated this recently by being the first housing association in England to achieve Investors in People Platinum, being recognised for their strong commitment to investing in people and communities.

The housing provider places people at the forefront of their work, and this spirit is one of the reasons behind their recent success.

North Star’s Chief Executive, Angela Lockwood, was recently named as one of 24 Housing Magazine’s Power Players. Angela has played a key role this year in driving forward campaigns and lobbying extensively over a solution for supported housing funding. With the celebration of International Women’s Day later this month, it is great to see female leaders, like Angela, appearing in the list, reflecting a greater diversity in terms of gender equality.

North Star’s Chief Executive isn’t the only one making waves on the National stage, as their Lead for PR and Communications was recently selected to take part in the National Housing Federation’s Futures Project. A project designed to help tackle the big social challenges the housing sector faces across the UK. Over 86 applications were received from every region in the country, and Laura Wood secured one of the 35 places, recognised for her creativity and drive.

To top off a great start to the year, North Star has also been shortlisted for the Heart of the Community Award, in the Teesside heat of the North East Business Awards. North Star has been recognised for developing an asset based Building Futures Programme that works with the strengths of local people and organisations to tackle social issues, with a focus on employment. The Teesside awards are due to take place on Thursday 22 March 2018 where the final winner will be announced.

North Star’s Chief Executive, Angela Lockwood, said: “It’s only two months into the year and we have achieved a lot, which can only bode well for the future. These achievements are a testament to the great people who work for North Star and its clear we have an exciting future.”
